Beginner's Fencing Class
Ages6-8 years 9-12 years Teenagers
Beginner classes are designed to be a fun introduction to the basics of fencing. Students will participate in a class that is organized and supervised by the coach. A class typically begins with games or other physical warm ups. Footwork practice or a group lesson may follow. Every beginner class includes some bouting, in a supportive, noncompetitive atmosphere. During the class you will learn the basic rules of fencing, how to handle an epee, move with an epee, attack and defend yourself against your opponent. Fencing will teach you strategic thinking and tactical planning. It provides a great cardio workout! It increases your reflexes, speed, improves your balance and agility. Fencing is exciting, challenging and fun! Children should be at least 6 years of age or older to begin our training classes. Full equipment is provided for all beginner classes. However, from time to time, fencing blades do break. If student breaks a blade while in use, he or she will be responsible for the replacement cost of the blade. Club membership not required. Beginner’s class starts in September and ends in May.
