San Antonio Girls Rock Camp (SAGRC) is an inclusive component of the South Texas Music Scene serving girls and trans-youth. We mentor campers as they freely express ideas and creativity through music composition and critical thinking skills. In one week, campers will learn the basics of their chosen instrument, form a band, write and perform an original song, culminating in a showcase at the end of the week. We create leadership opportunities, cultivate a supportive community of peers and mentors, encourage social change, and develop meaningful life skills.
Along with band practice camper attend the following workshops:
History of Women of Rock – spotlighting key players women in Rock ‘n Roll History
Gender and Diversity – discussing what “gender” means and how people identify themselves. How to be an ally to people who are discriminated against.
Body Positivity -discussing different body types, identifying negative views and reaffirming positive values
Healthy Relationship and Communication – methods of being a good listener and developing skills to effectively communicate.
Musical Instrumentation – learning the basics of their instrument and learning to play in a band setting
