2021 Summer Camps June 7 - August 13 There’s a camp for every child this summer at The DoSeum! This summer, The DoSeum will offer camps that will engage campers in STEM, the arts, and literacy, and inspire them to explore, discover, create, and learn. Spaces in camp fill quickly, so sign-up today to be part of The DoSeum’s amazing summer experiences!

SUMMER CAMPS FOR AGES 3 - 4

By The Seashore

June 7 - 11, July 12 - 16, & August 2 - 6 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Extended Care available from 12:00 - 3:00 PM

It’s sun, sand, and surf at our By the Seashore camp! Campers will enjoy experimenting with water all around The DoSeum! Art and science combine as campers explore concepts like buoyancy, make their own sensory ocean jars, and create jellyfish art! We will have fun learning about what makes the beach and ocean so special— the animals, weather, and geology--to help foster appreciation and care of them. This camp is a great mix of art and science as well as environmental stewardship. Water you waiting for? Come join us!

Dino Discovery

June 14 - 18 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Extended Care available from 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Campers will explore the exciting world of paleontology and its investigation of fossils. Each day will be filled with fun projects, from dino-stomp print making to fossil excavation! This camp will help encourage little explorers to look closely and pay attention to detail while working collaboratively and independently.

Kids Concoctions

June 21 - 25 & July 26 - 30 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Extended Care available from 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Kids Concoctions introduces campers to asking questions about their world and using scientific processes and reasoning to answer them! Campers will observe chemical reactions created by combining common household materials—they will explore magic milk, apple volcanoes, and rainbow fizzy science experiments. Your young scientist will observe and participate in exciting experiments first-hand to understand the idea of how variables affect outcomes.

Colorful Critters

June 28 - July 2 & August 9 - 13 | 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Extended Care available from 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Little camper, little camper, what do you see? In Colorful Critters, we’ll explore the world of Eric Carle and his amazing animals. From bears and butterflies to lions and ladybugs, your hungry camp-tipillar will create tissue collages, enjoy fingerpainting, and create a butterfly and firefly out of recyclable materials. Campers will explore emotions when they read why the ladybug is grouchy and the firefly is lonely. This camp is great for teaching symmetry, properties of light, as well as enhancing fine motor skills. And…it’s just plain fun!

Yankee Doodle Dinos

Too Cute For Words

Where would you like to explore today? The bottom of the ocean? Outer space? A jungle? If you can dream it, you can go there! Campers will use their vivid minds and imaginations to create a fantastically fun story for their very own wordless book! Pictures can say more than words and help convey emotions, especially in young children. Campers will be active players in their fantasy adventures as they engage their vocabulary, foster critical thinking skills, promote creativity, and use their imaginations. All the world's a stage in Too Cute for Words!

SUMMER CAMPS FOR AGES 5 - 7

Battle Of The Boats

June 7 - 11 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Fast boats, slow boats, big boats, row boats. Come on board and batten down the hatches for an exciting week of all things that float. Campers will face a series of design challenges as they create their perfect suite of ships. They’ll practice the Engineering Design Process as they craft their vessels while also exploring our summer exhibition Voyage to the Deep to learn more about the Earth’s oceans and seas. Don’t be left dead in the water, it’s all hands on deck for this adventure on the high seas.

3-2-1 Blast Off

June 14 - 18 & July 6 - 9 (4-Day Camp) | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

We have liftoff! Campers will love this aeronautics-inspired camp where they’ll explore rockets, parachutes, and zip lines. Your budding astronaut will have a great time recreating experiments by Galileo, designing and building flying machines, and testing and improving their designs--the Engineering Design Process! Aeronautical and mathematical concepts abound. At the end of camp, your child will take home their air transportation technologies.

Voyage To The Deep

June 21 - 25 & August 2 - 6 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Let’s take a deep dive into the marine world. Connected to our summer exhibition Voyage to the Deep, campers will be explorers, biologists, and engineers as they investigate all aspects of the seas and oceans—from sharks and giant squids and to deep-sea submersibles. We’ll also discover the importance of Earth’s waterways for all kinds of animals, including humans. Campers will investigate these questions and more while exploring The DoSeum’s water-related exhibitions to learn about water pollution and how we can better take care of our planet’s most vital resource.

Outdoor Explorers

June 28 - July 2 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Take a ride on the wild side! In Outdoor Explorers, campers will become planet protectors as they learn all about the Earth and its creatures. Your scientist will use binoculars, magnifying lenses, and digital microscopes to explore bugs, plants, and other natural objects! Playtime at The DoSeum will be mixed with hands-on experiences in observation, journaling, the collection and identification of specimens, and recognizing patterns in the natural world. This camp is great for learning investigation and reasoning skills, tool use and safety, pattern recognition, and appreciation of nature. Get ready to get your hands dirty!

Museum Madness

July 12 - 16 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

What does it take to make a museum? Museum Madness will introduce campers to the many facets of museology. From designing dioramas to making murals, your junior curator will discover the ins and outs of the museum world. With hands-on activities and behind-the-scenes tours of The DoSeum, they’ll see and experience the many, many talents needed to make a museum run! This camp is great for tool use and safety, literacy, team building, and artistic expression.

Comic Creations

July 19 - 23 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This camp is perfect for young readers and emerging artists. Campers will study the basic parts of a story and practice reading and writing while they create their very own comic books. At the end of the week, your child will go home with a book collecting the comics created by their friends in camp.

Gotta Regatta

July 26 - 30 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Why do steel boats float but bars of steel sink? Why are the bottoms of some boats V-shaped and others flat? How DOES a boat float? Campers will explore these questions by making all sorts of water-worthy vessels—from surface boats to submarines. They’ll also engage in fun activities that teach scientific concepts like density and friction. At the end of the week, we will host a Boating Rally to celebrate our creations!

Would a griffin be an apex predator? Would Pegasi and unicorns inhabit the same habitat? Is the red scale trait dominant or recessive in dragons? We invite your child to explore and create the answers to questions like these in our Fantastical Ecology camp. While campers practice creativity and storytelling, they will also engage with the real scientific concepts that underly modern ecology and biology.

Blast From The Past

Archaeology with a twist! Beyond ancient ruins and mummies from long ago, campers will be investigating artifacts from the not-so-distant past! Contemporary archaeology uses archeological methods to better understand our modern culture. In Blast from the Past, our modern archaeologists will walk away with an appreciation of how everyday artifacts store a wealth of information about who we are as a society!

Master Camp: Special Agent K.I.D.

June 21 - 25 & August 9 - 13 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

“Kzzzztch! Come in Red Herring! We have a secret mission that only a team of elite spies can complete. Spy Academy HQ is compromised.”
Campers will need to work together to solve a mystery that spans the entirety of The DoSeum! Once complete, spies will split into teams to design missions for each other. This camp makes math fun while teaching teamwork and critical thinking.

Trendsetters

June 28 - July 2 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Do you have a passion for fashion? Campers will explore skills in fashion illustration, creating accessories, textile transformation, and having fun with fellow fashion-forward campers! STEAM concepts will be embedded into the fun as the designers measure fabric for construction, think about patterns and color mixing with design and dye techniques, and more. Maker skills will combine with art, design, and material science through playful fashion fun!

Manga Nation

July 6 - 9 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This camp is perfect for anime fans or emerging artists. Campers will study narrative and the art style associated with different genres of manga as they create their very own manga comic book. We will also explore the wide range of jobs required to put manga on the shelf, from sketching, to inking and shading, to marketing. At the end of the week, your child will go home with a book collecting the stories created by each of their classmates.

Master Camp: Brain Games

July 12 - 16 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Why are some people extroverted while some are introverted? What makes you tick? We all know that everyone is different, but why exactly? Are you an optimist or a pessimist? In Brain Games! we will explore the psychological and neuroscience concepts that make us unique! In this DoSeum Master Camp, the low student-to-teacher ratio will enable your child to uncover their own individual interests and needs through hands-on learning and exploration. In the end, campers will walk away with a better understanding of themselves, why they act the way they do and feeling confident about what makes them special and unique!

Master Camp: Boom, Swish, Pow!

July 19 - 23 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

This camp is perfect for children interested in technology and movie production. We will focus on the Foley technique which is how movie makers recreate believable sound effects. For example, a Foley artist may crinkle a plastic bag to recreate the sound of a campfire. Or clop coconuts together to mimic the sound of a galloping horse. At the end of the week, campers will have shot and editing a video with their very own Foley sound effects.

Bats The Spirits!

August 2 - 6 | 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

What is a camp without a scary story told around a fire? While DoSeum campers won’t be making fires, they will make their very own scary stories while studying established scary stories local to San Antonio. By the end of the week, they will create an accompanying visual representation of their story – whether it be a diorama, a costume, or something from…the unknown.
