Drama as Ministry: The Bible Onstage Date: June 17, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Family Showcase: June 17, 4 p.m. Grades: 6th-12th Teacher: Gwen Kandt Cost: $20 Registration Deadline: June 10 One of the more common uses for drama in a ministry setting is to act out a Bible story for an audience. But there is more than one way to tell the same story! In this workshop, we will play with well-known Bible stories and various techniques for putting them on stage, including modernizing the plot and telling the story through monologues. There will be a showcase at the end of the day, allowing families to see what the students have done.
Hey, Hey What’s That Sound Camp Dates: June 21-25, 1-5 p.m. Grades: 6th–Adult Teacher: Marla Ripps Cost: $100 Registration deadline: June 14 Requirements for camp: Laptop with Windows (preferred) or Mac. Know how to connect to the internet when supplied a wifi password Able to download free Audacity audio software Ever wonder how sound happens in a show? How can it sound so seamless? Where do you get the sounds, or can you make them yourself? We will explore how sound happens, where to find 2 sounds, what makes sounds appropriate for drama, comedy, musicals, etc., what music can you use legally, and more. You will walk away with a complete soundtrack for a show (each person in the class will have a different show).
Project Costume Date: July 1, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Family Showcase: July 1, 4:30 p.m. Grades: 6th-12th Teacher: Marla Ripps Cost: $20 Registration deadline: June 28 Note: Each participant must bring recyclable materials such as newspaper, shopping bags, trash bags, duct tape, fabric, trim,etc. We will have some items available at CSDC but not enough to supply every group with all their materials This is one of our most popular workshops! Students will be put in groups and given a historical era or a play title. Using found items, such as thrift store clothing, newspaper, duct tape, etc., the groups will make a costume appropriate to the era or the play. Creations will be unveiled during the free fashion show for family and friends
New Play Festival 2021 Camp AUDITION Date: June 14, 7-9 p.m. Grades: 6th-12th Auditioners: Student directors: Alitza, Faith, Julianna, Kara; Adult Mentors: Gwen Kandt, Irene Miller Cost: Audition is free Registration Deadline: June 13 Once you’re registered for the audition, you will be sent an audition form. Fill it out and send it back. The audition will consist of cold readings - students will read the scripts provided during the audition. Students will need to be present the entire audition. All students who audition will be cast. 3 After students are notified about casting results, students may register for the camp. Optional: Prepare a one minute monologue and bring headshot/resume
CAMP Camp Dates: July 5-July 16, Monday through Friday Rehearsal times: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Students will only need to attend during their rehearsal(s). Each play will have a 3 hour block of rehearsal time daily for the first week and for Monday through Wednesday of the second week. Everyone will attend on Thursday, July 15, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., for Tech and Dress rehearsals. Friday, July 16, all students will be called from 1-4:30 p.m. for the final dress rehearsal. Performance Dates: July 16-17, 7:30 p.m. Grades: 6th-12th Student Directors: Alitza, Faith, Julianna, Kara Adult Mentors: Gwen Kandt, Irene Miller Cost: $350 (includes tuition, supply fee, and 1 comp ticket) Registration deadline: June 21 July is a special time for us, as we mount our third New Play Festival (NPF). Join our two week camp to rehearse and produce new works written by CSDC students, alumni, and staff playwrights. Four short plays will be prepared for two performances. This camp is designed for students who love theatre! It’s a rigorous, exciting program, dedicated to actor training, theatre fun, and the World Premiere productions of our new plays. Besides being a great opportunity to learn about theatre and the fun process that goes along with producing shows, this camp provides a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to grow and to develop new friendships. The camp will be filled with learning and rehearsing, culminating in two performances at the end of the two weeks.
Stage Combat: Back to the Basics Dates: July 26 –July 30, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Family Showcase: July 30, 1-2 p.m. Grades: 6th–12th 4 Teachers: Andrea Miller, Christopher Miller Cost: $100 Registration Deadline: July 19 Whether you have experience in stage combat or not, this camp will go over the basics of falling, pushing, slapping, and punching, while keeping everyone involved safe. Use these moves as you go forward on your theatre journey. The last day of camp will be a scene presentation to show off your new skills
