What they are: They are exclusive hours where children in need of sensory modifications can come to the DoSeum without some of the noises, effects, and crowding that hinder their ability to engage with and learn from all of our fun exhibits.
Who they serve: They are for any child in need of sensory modifications. This could include children on the Autism Spectrum (ASD), children with sensory processing disorders, or any child who would benefit from exhibit modifications.
Why they’re important: At the DoSeum, we believe in creating an environment that is inclusive and supportive of all San Antonio’s children, and takes into account their learning needs.
We want to create a time and space where children in need of modifications can play and learn comfortably.

The perfect audio and ocular accessories!
While many families bring their own sunglasses and earplugs, we are happy to provide them as well. At the front desk, parents can grab sunglasses and earplugs for their kiddos. For some children, some sound and light effects can be highly uncomfortable and too harsh. Sunglasses and earplugs make touring the DoSeum more comfortable!
Super Signage!
Throughout all indoor and outdoor exhibits, extra signage is placed to warn parents and kiddos of high sensory areas, guide them to low sensory areas, and provide specify cautions or instructions signage for specific exhibit stations.
Big Wind has signage warning about the high intensity, and extra headphones are available to make it more enjoyable! Thanks to Any Baby Can for co-creating signage with us!
Exhibit Adjustments!
Depending on the exhibit, small or large adjustments are made to make them more enjoyable. Volume is decreased throughout all exhibits, flashing lights are dimmed, and certain materials are removed or replaced.
In Imagine It! The floor setting is set to “Under the Sea”, with lights in tones of blue and peaceful ocean noises like waves and whales.
These and all of the modifications for our Sensory Friendly Hours make the DoSeum an awesome place for all children in need of modifications. And a big shout out to all of our partners who consulted with us as we developed this program.
