The DoSeum (The-Doo-See-Um) is San Antonio’s only museum just for children where kids learn by doing, creating and tinkering—instead of just looking and listening.

Our Mission

Through Joyful Learning and Discovery, we grow minds, connect families and transform communities.

Our Vision

As a premier educational resource we develop innovative thinkers capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.

What We Do

  • Educator professional development
  • Out-of-school learning experiences for kids, including field experiences, camps and weekly course offerings
  • Outreach opportunities for students & families
  • Parent and caregiver education
  • Programming for kids and families with special needs
  • Our Roots

The San Antonio Children’s Museum was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers who were committed to building a community space dedicated to early childhood development. In September of 1995, we opened our doors at 305 East Houston Street. Since then, millions of visitors explored three floors of hands-on exhibits that spark children’s imagination and help them discover a world of knowledge. Dedicated to children ages 0-10 years, our exhibits and programs have always focused on early childhood learning, especially in the creative arts, sciences and early literacy.

In 2008, the museum launched a process of exhibit and program renovation. Three new permanent exhibits, the 1,750-square-foot H-E-B Kids’ Market, the action-packed PowerBall Hall, and the Tot Spot dedicated to infants and toddlers 0-36 months marked our commitment to become a key resource in San Antonio for early childhood development.

Over the years, through interactive play, the museum has inspired a journey of life-long learning, ultimately enriching lives and positively impacting the San Antonio community and beyond.

After nearly 20 years downtown, the San Antonio Children’s museum will close its doors at 305 East Houston on March 29, 2015. But where one door closes, another opens.

    The Next Chapter: The DoSeum

San Antonio’s new museum for kids, The DoSeum, opened on June 6, 2015 at 2800 Broadway near the corner of Broadway and E. Mulberry.

It is comprised of a series of three, two-story exhibit halls totaling 65,000 square feet. Between each exhibit hall, glass facades create daylight-flooded transitional spaces that connect visitors to the additional 39,000 square feet of outdoor exhibit yards.

Envisioned as a museum set in a park, the building is surrounded by meandering pathways that offer a sense of surprise, beautiful gardens that captivate the senses and shady places for families to relax or for school groups to unwind.

    • The new facility serves more than 300,000 visitors each year.
    • Children learn 21st-century problem-solving skills and creativity-two important cultural and educational concepts.
    • With six major permanent exhibition spaces, a 3,000-square-foot temporary exhibit space, and 39,000 square feet of outdoor exhibit yards, The DoSeum has much to discover and explore, allowing kids to create and learn on a grand scale.
