Who is Invited:
All ages welcome. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.
This is a public program intended for families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Registration & Fees:
Registration is NOT required for this activity, but please arrive on time. Saturdays can be very busy, and there is often a long line at the Fee Booth.
Though the activity is free, all Natural Area entrance fees apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on crowded days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the walk! The event is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
When & Where to Meet:
Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor’s Center. Open to the first 15 who check in at the Rock Garden between 8:30 and 8:45 AM. The stroll starts promptly at 9:00 AM. We will use the Discovery Trail, which has a compacted crushed granite surface.
How to Prepare:
Dress for being outdoors. Comfortable shoes/boots, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat recommended. Wear layers that can be added or removed as weather conditions change. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person and snacks.
