Have you ever wondered what makes your favorite games so addictive? This introductory camp pulls back the digital curtain, transforming students from consumers into Game Architects. We move beyond the controller to explore the logic, design, and storytelling that power the multi-billion dollar gaming industry.
The Developer's Toolkit
We believe in learning by doing. Using Construct 3, a powerful and intuitive game engine, campers will gain hands-on experience with the same logic used by professional indie developers. The curriculum focuses on:
-
Event-Based Logic: Understanding "If/Then" statements and how to script character movement, enemy AI, and scoring systems.
-
Physics & Mechanics: Learning how to simulate gravity, collisions, and platforming dynamics.
-
Level Design: Crafting immersive environments that challenge and reward the player.
-
Sprite & Sound Integration: Bringing games to life with custom visuals and audio effects.
Exponential Growth
Our "Micro-to-Macro" teaching style ensures that no one is left behind. Each project starts with a small, achievable goal—like moving a character across the screen—and grows daily into a fully featured game. As campers layer on new skills, their projects become increasingly sophisticated, mirroring the real-world "Iterative Design" process.
Science Meets Art
Game development is the perfect intersection of STEM and Creativity. Throughout the week, campers will develop:
-
Computational Thinking: Breaking down complex problems into small, logical steps.
-
User Experience (UX) Design: Learning how to make a game "feel" right and keep players engaged.
-
Rapid Prototyping: Testing, breaking, and fixing their games to make them the best they can be.
The Final Build
The week culminates in a Playtesting Party, where campers showcase their original creations. By the final day, students won't just have a collection of games to share with friends—they’ll have the foundational "behind-the-scenes" knowledge to start their journey toward becoming professional developers.
