Jr Programmer: Intro to 2D Game Development with Scratch

Dive into 2D game design with Scratch and discover how to code iconic arcade classics like Flappy Bird, Pac-Man, and custom platformers! Campers build core computing skills using custom code blocks, functions, flowcharts, and interactive physical components. By combining software logic with principles of electrical engineering, young developers learn what it takes to bring their own interactive games to life!

Jr Programmer: Intro to 2D Game Development with Scratch (5-Day Camp)

Launch your child’s coding journey in this ultimate week-long game development studio experience! Across five action-packed days, young creators step into the role of software engineers to master Scratch—a powerful block-based programming language—while discovering how hardware and software combine to create interactive technology. Campers will progress from fundamental coding logic to advanced game design, recreating arcade classics like Flappy Bird and Pac-Man before engineering their own multi-level custom platformers from scratch.

Throughout the week, students go far beyond simple drag-and-drop coding. They’ll learn to map out complex game mechanics using logic flowcharts, build modular code with custom blocks and functions, program collision physics, and integrate hardware elements like Makey Makey circuit boards to explore principles of electrical engineering. Working in a collaborative studio environment, campers write, test, debug, and playtest their games alongside peers, sharpening critical thinking and systemic problem-solving skills at every step.

By the end of the 5-day camp, students will have compiled an impressive digital portfolio of custom, fully playable games to share with family and friends! Campers leave with deep technical confidence, practical computer science fundamentals, and an enduring passion for creating technology.
