Transform from a gamer into a developer! This camp utilizes Roblox Studio, the same engine used by professional creators to reach millions of players worldwide. Students will dive deep into the "Game Dev Pipeline," learning how to turn a creative spark into a polished, playable multiplayer experience.
The Developer's Toolkit
Throughout the week, campers will master three core pillars of modern game creation:
-
3D Modeling & Environment Design: Using the "Terrain Editor" and "Part" tools to build immersive maps, from futuristic cities to ancient ruins.
-
Lua Scripting: Learning the fundamentals of coding to create interactive objects, such as teleporters, disappearing platforms, and custom power-ups.
-
Game Mechanics: Understanding "Game Loops"—the logic that dictates how a round starts, how players score, and how a winner is declared.
The Project: Capture the Flag
The curriculum is centered around a massive final project: a Multiplayer Capture the Flag (CTF) game. This project serves as a masterclass in balanced game design:
-
Level Design: Creating symmetrical or balanced maps to ensure fair competition.
-
Team Logic: Scripting the "Teams" service to assign players to specific groups.
-
Capture Mechanics: Writing the code that recognizes when a flag is touched, carried, and successfully returned to base.
Collaborative Testing
Game development is an iterative process. Campers will engage in Peer Playtesting, where they enter each other’s worlds to find "bugs" and suggest improvements. This fosters a community of creators who help one another refine their maps for maximum "fun factor."
Skills for the Future
By the end of the week, students will have more than just a custom game. They will have developed computational thinking, spatial reasoning, and user-experience (UX) design skills. Whether they want to publish games professionally or simply understand the tech behind their favorite hobby, they will leave with a solid foundation in digital creation.
