Every May and June, thousands of local parents, grandparents, and caregivers weigh in on their favorite local places to take kids. Typically, we showcase the Top 20 winners... but this year, in honor of KidsOutAndAbout.com's 21st birthday (we originally launched in June of 2001), we bring you San Antonio's
TOP 21 Places to Take Kids!

1. San Antonio Zoo
San Antonio Zoo, voted the #1 zoo in Texas, has something for the whole family! Feed a giraffe, meet a rhino, or hop with the kangaroos on your next WILD visit.
2. Natural Bridge Caverns
Texas’ largest cavern system – and so much more! Take a guided tour (or two!) 180 ft below the surface of the earth and experience this Naturally Amazing place filled with incredible underground chambers and spectacular formations. Natural Bridge Caverns is more than the cavern tours, it’s also home to Twisted Trails, the World’s LARGEST Zip Rails and Ropes Course. Test your balance on four stories of obstacles high above the spectacular Texas Hill Country. For the little ones, Twisted Tykes is a specifically designed lower ropes and zip rails course. Don’t forget about panning for gems and fossils in a real working sluice at the Discovery Village Mining Company or take on the challenge of the AMAZEn’ Ranch Roundup, a 5,000 square-foot outdoor maze. It’s fun for the entire family!
3. The DoSeum

Located in the heart of downtown San Antonio in Hemisfair Park, through shared, rich experiences, we are able to engage families and communities year-round to create memorable moments that lead to lifelong impact. Magik Theatre is dedicated to storytelling that activates imagination, grows young minds, and inspires creativity.
5. Kiddie Park
Kiddie Park, operated by San Antonio Zoo, has created memories for generations as the country's oldest children's amusement park, established in 1925! The award-winning attraction has since been renovated with modern updates and offerings while preserving its original 1920s flair. Guests can join in its rich history and enjoy original rides, like the old-fashioned Ferris Wheel, the famous hand-carved Herschell Spillman carousel, or try something new with an unlimited rides band! Kiddie Park's original location was near the corner of Broadway and East Mulberry Avenue, but the ever-growing site caused issues with parking and expansion, causing its relocation to San Antonio Zoo in the Summer of 2019. Experience America's oldest children's amusement park now at San Antonio Zoo!

7. San Antonio Botanical Garden

8. My Local Library
Of course, the libraries in the San Antonio area are not really ONE place, but MANY places... but it's important to emphasize how valuable libraries are for family learning and fun. The libraries in our area are wonderful about posting their events to the KidsOutAndAbout calendar so you always can get ideas for free things to do with your kids that celebrate education and imagination. 9. Morgan's Wonderland and Morgan's Inspiration Island
Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s first ultra-accessible family fun park, encompasses 25 acres of rides, attractions and activities for everyone, and all are welcome!
