*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 10/11/2025
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Who Is Invited:
This hike is open to ages 8 and up. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Be aware that this hike includes some elevation gain and loss over rough, rocky topography. The hike to the tracks is 2.5 miles one-way, making a 5-mile round trip.
This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time.
Where to Meet:
Meet at the Rainwater Tower outside the Visitor Center. Lots A & B will have the closest parking. The hike will leave promptly at 8:00 am, so please plan to arrive a little early.
How to Prepare:
Though the activity is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area do apply. We often fill to capacity. To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth, please pre-purchase and print out a day pass. Day passes can be reserved beginning one month before the date of your visit. Please note: reserving a Day Pass does not guarantee a spot for you on the hike! The hike is limited to the first 15 participants to check-in with the hike leader.
Dress for hiking outdoors. Wear layers that can be taken on or off as the day's weather changes. Sturdy hiking shoes, sunscreen, and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and a snack.
If ADA assistance is required, please request modifications using this form, or email accessibility@tpwd.texas.gov at least 2 weeks in advance.
Cancellation:
This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA's main office at 210-688-9055, or go to the GCSNA webpage, Instagram, or Facebook.
