The Children’s Ballet of San Antonio is pleased to announce free, open-call auditions for its Spring production of The Little Mermaid. The Little Mermaid is part of CBSA’s tenth anniversary season and promises to be an entertainment extravaganza with live musical numbers, mesmerizing choreography and special water effects that are sure to make a splash!
Performances will take place May 16-17 at downtown’s historic Majestic Theatre, giving artists ages 3-19 the chance to light up that legendary stage in a variety of roles carefully cast to highlight special skills and budding talents. Performers in all disciplines of dance (ballet, hip-hop, tap, jazz, contemporary, etc.) are encouraged to audition, as well as gymnasts, actors, vocalists, and musical theatre artists. CBSA also continues its commitment to create performing opportunities for children with special needs, tailoring roles to their strengths.
Performers will work with Master Ballet Teachers, international guest artists, and phenomenal local choreographers to create a legendary, professional-calibre journey under the sea. The award-winning Children’s Ballet of San Antonio and its sponsor school, the Dance Center of San Antonio, are the leading providers of youth dance instruction and performance opportunities in the region. Since its founding 10 years ago, CBSA performers and Dance Center students have studied with acclaimed Master Ballet Teachers, won numerous international awards, and accepted scholarships to world-renowned ballet institutions like the Royal Ballet School in London, the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia, and the School of American Ballet in New York City, to name a few. Founder and Artistic Director Vanessa Bessler is a nine-time consecutive winner of Youth America Grand Prix’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year. In 2024, the Dance Center was recognized as among the top 2.5 percent of U.S. ballet institutions.
